Do you have a question?

The benefits of a coconut fiber shade sail

The primary advantage is the ability to allow air circulation through the airy weave. Other sails are not as breathable because their fabric is more covering. Additionally, the aesthetics (material and color) of the coconut make it blend much better with its environment, resulting in a more natural appearance.
Also, since coconut fiber has insulating properties, the perceived temperature under the shading is lower than with a traditional sail. You can experience up to 2 to 3 degrees less under the shading. Finally, the aroma emanating from the coconut is naturally pleasant, unlike the plastic odor that some shading tarps may have.

Yes, because coconut fiber is a 100% natural, healthy, bio-sourced, untreated material. It is even possible, once the weave is no longer as effective, to reuse it in the garden to limit soil evaporation.

Characteristics

The shade sails made of coconut fiber offer excellent capability to create a shaded and cool environment, making them ideal for sun protection.

  1. Dense Weave : The coconut fiber used in these products is tightly woven, effectively blocking sunlight rays. This creates a shaded area below, thereby reducing direct exposure to harmful UV rays.
  2. Heat Protection : Shadesails made of coconut fiber have the ability to lower the ambient temperature under the shade they create. Thanks to their naturally insulating material, they allow adequate air circulation, helping to maintain a cooler and more comfortable atmosphere.
  3. Light Filtration : These products also allow light filtration, creating a pleasant and subdued ambiance. This creates a space conducive to relaxation and socializing without being dazzled by direct sunlight.
  4. UV Ray Protection : The weave reduces solar radiation, providing additional protection against the harmful effects of UV rays, such as sunburn and skin damage.

The airy weave of our shading canopies gives them low wind resistance, thus reducing the risk of tearing or pulling away

Our shade sails are not waterproof because, on one hand, coconut fiber is not waterproofed, and on the other hand, the weave is airy, allowing raindrops to pass through.

When it rains, the coconut fiber absorbs water, doubling the dry weight of the canopy, which is 1200 g/m2 (and 1600 g/m2 for high density). Once dry, it naturally returns to its initial shape.

Coconut fiber is naturally water-resistant. Our canopies can withstand both high and low temperatures, and we have not received any specific feedback regarding freezing. It’s also worth noting that in winter, snow can significantly increase the weight of the canopy. Therefore, in regions prone to snowfall, winter storage is important to prevent rope breakage.

Our shading canvases and sails remain 100% natural products, meaning they are untreated and without any special finishes. Coconut fiber ages like wood and over time takes on a whitish, even slightly grayish appearance. We can provide advice if needed to optimize the lifespan of this natural material.

It is possible that our hanging models may loosen during the days following installation or after the first rains. Therefore, we recommend retightening it approximately 1 month after installation or after 1 or 2 rainy episodes.

The coconut ropes also slightly loosen over time; feel free to retighten them from time to time as needed (especially for the corner attachments of model 2 and triangular model).

Installation

Depending on the model you purchased, you will find detailed instructions for proper installation on the dedicated page.

Heart shaped thimbles are necessary for the optimal use of our shading canopies and for the durability of the attachment loops. Without them, the rope in the loops will wear prematurely and is highly likely to break before the weave itself becomes too worn.

Each model will have its specific installation instructions, which are described on its dedicated page.

Delivery times

For our standard models, delivery in europe typically takes 3 to 5 working days. This timeframe may be extended during peak periods (from May to September) due to a significant increase in the number of orders.

For custom orders, during the low season, the delivery time is approximately 10 to 15 working days and may similarly be longer during the summer season.

After placing your order, you can track the delivery of your shade on your customer account, in the delivery tracking section.

Maintenance

The lifespan of shade sails made of coconut fiber can vary depending on several factors, such as local weather conditions, the annual duration of exposure to UV rays, if you store it during winter or not and proper usage. Our products are known for their durability, and the quality of our shading canopies remains optimal during the first 2 years, with a average lifespan of 3 to 4 seasons. Also, it’s worth noting that the quality of the installation is a guarantee of durability.

If you plan not to use the shade sail for an extended period, especially in winter, we recommend removing it and storing it in a dry place, protected from the weather and rodents. Although naturally resistant, this will help prevent potential damage caused by adverse weather conditions.

To maximize the lifespan of our products and ensure their durability, it is recommended to follow the provided installation instructions and to remove them in the fall and winter. Also, make sure that their usage is in line with their intended purpose. For example, avoid using them as a hammock for your cat; our shading canopies are not designed for that! This significantly reduces their lifespan.

In summer, we recommend watering approximately 1 to 2 times a month, if possible, in the evening when heat persists for several days, to rehydrate the coconut fiber.

In the event of a stain on your shade sail, you can simply use warm water and mild soap to gently clean the surface. Cleaning can be done with a soft broom, a gentle brush, or a water jet. Avoid the use of harsh chemicals that could damage the coconut fiber.

Manufacturing

Our shade sails are crafted using woven coconut rope. The manufacturing process is as follows: after soaking the coconut husk in saltwater for several months, the softened fiber is spun into rope. This rope is then used for weaving, in various densities, by weavers on traditional, non-mechanized looms. The finishing touches, such as attaching reinforcement rope and creating loops, are done by hand.

Warranty

All our shading canvases and sails are covered by a 2-year warranty, for normal use (see our terms and conditions).
