Additional information

The high-density weaving provides around 30% more shade than the simple weaving M1 design. As the weaving is tighter, the shade is more refreshing and the screening is greater.

The shade sail weaving sifts the sun’s rays. It is weatherproof resistant, rot-resistant and very sturdy. It allows air to pass through, for a fresh and pleasant feeling.

For this specific design we provide for free fine ropes (diameter 0,5 cm) so that you have enough fittings to attach your shade sail to your fixed structure.

If you want additional ropes, or a different diameter (for instance to install a privacy screen) please specify it when finalizing your order.

Shade sails are 1,6 kg per m2, and they double in weight when wet. They dry very quickly thanks to their spaced out weaving. Coconut fiber becomes slack once it is wet, and this feature reverts when it dries up ; it’s how coconut fiber reacts to the humidity. It may be necessary to slightly stretch your shade sail after the first rains, specially the large sails and/or when they’re attached with coir rope.

Regarding the installation of our Design N.1 you will find all the indications here.

Custom request

Made-to-measure shade sail isn’t possible with this high-density weaving at the moment.

Observations

Here at La Scourtinerie, the shade sails are exposed to bad weather all year round for several seasons now. Over time, we observe a color modification, especially on the side exposed to the sun (above). Depending on the exposure conditions, our shade sails may turn pale or grey (same as wood exposed under similar conditions).

Strong sun and wind can lead to fiber loss which then leads to the weaving thickness gradual diminution, and therefore impact the shade sail efficiency. This becomes apparent after several years though and the shade sails wintering allows them to last longer. Note that the quality of the shade sail remains optimal in the first 2 years.

Please note that snow can significantly increase the sail’s weight and lead to, either a collapse of the supporting structure (pergola), or a rope breach regarding the suspended shade sails. In such situation, wintering is highly recommended, if not required.

CAUTION : We’ve noticed that rain can sometimes cause the natural tannins in the coconut fiber to bleed, so be careful with the white tiles and fabrics on your terrace. We therefore recommend that you rinse your shade sail with plenty of water when you receive it, then leave it to dry before installing it. Repeat the operation several times if necessary.
